Municipal Court Warrants in Etowah County
Eight municipal courts operate in Etowah County: Gadsden, Altoona, Attalla, Glencoe, Hokes Bluff, Rainbow City, Sardis, and Southside. Each one hears city ordinance, traffic, and misdemeanor cases inside its own city limits. Miss a setting there and the court may issue an alias warrant for failure to appear, though only the issuing court's record gives the exact label and current status. These are not county warrants gathered at one courthouse. The Circuit Clerk's municipal directory routes a reader to each city's own court. A Sheriff display or Circuit Clerk search can miss a city recall that happened last week. So name the city before calling any Etowah County warrant search complete.
Eight Etowah Municipal Warrant Routes
The directory works as a map of Etowah County's eight city courts. Treat the listed numbers as general court contacts. No city promises a dedicated warrant clerk or a same-day answer, so plan for a short wait.
| City | Municipal court contact | Typical record scope |
|---|---|---|
| Altoona | 205-589-2311 | City traffic, ordinance, misdemeanor |
| Attalla | 256-538-9986 | City court and payment questions |
| Gadsden | 256-549-4595 | City traffic and misdemeanors |
| Glencoe | 256-492-1424 | Municipal docket and citations |
| Hokes Bluff | 256-492-2414 ext. 4 | Municipal cases |
| Rainbow City | 256-413-1216 | Traffic, misdemeanor, probation settings |
| Sardis | 256-593-6492 | Municipal cases |
| Southside | 256-442-9775 | Traffic, ordinance, misdemeanor |
City clerks in Etowah County handle city cases only. A felony, Sheriff case, or State Trooper matter usually gets redirected to District or Circuit Court. What matters is which office owns the docket, not where the caller lives.
Etowah County Municipal Warrant Courts
All eight cities run their own municipal courts under the Etowah County directory. Gadsden Municipal Court sits at 1511 Campbell Avenue. Rainbow City links its court and police at 3700 Rainbow Drive. Southside holds court at City Hall. Attalla splits the two, with a separate session site and a City Hall channel for payments and questions. Glencoe Municipal Court meets at 201 West Chastain Boulevard. Altoona, Hokes Bluff, and Sardis appear in the directory too, but those three publish no warrant-search procedure, so their clerks are the contact for hours, ID rules, payment options, and recall steps. This spread is exactly why "check the county" falls short. Each city court controls its own docket and any recall order. The Sheriff may serve city process, yet service does not move the case onto the Sheriff's Most Wanted page.
Gadsden's Etowah County Warrant Office
Gadsden Municipal Court publishes 256-549-4595, and the city staff directory lists a separate Warrant Office at 256-549-4596. The court takes city traffic and misdemeanor matters. Gadsden Police uses 256-549-4500; police records now sit at the municipal-court complex.

The city's Legal page draws a clear line. Its prosecutor handles municipal cases, while the District Attorney takes felonies and matters involving the Sheriff or Alabama State Troopers. So a Gadsden number is not a universal Etowah County warrant line.
How to Check a Municipal Court Warrant
Etowah County has no unified municipal warrant index. Start with the city named on the ticket, notice, or court paper. Bring a case or citation number if you have one, but ask the clerk what is actually required before sending personal details.
- Identify the issuing city and open its official municipal court page through the city or county directory.
- Use an official citation tool only for its stated scope. Alabama OTR serves eligible traffic requests; Glencoe's vendor is citation and payment oriented.
- Call the municipal clerk or named warrant office. Southside allows local city-warrant checks by phone but says other warrant checks require an in-person police visit.
- If instructed, visit the clerk or police department with identification and case information. Ask how current status will be confirmed and what appearance, bond, or court request applies.
The Etowah County Sheriff, at 256-546-2825, can route a service question. That line does not promise complete city-warrant status. The Circuit Clerk's criminal and magistrate line, 256-549-5437, routes county court matters. Use each channel for the record it owns.
Rainbow City Etowah Municipal Warrants
Rainbow City Municipal Court posts a local warrant-recall form, something few cities offer. It wants the case number, caption, defendant, charge, next docket, signature, phone, address, and appearance details. The form spells out a $100 appearance bond, lists payment methods, and requires an in-person appearance by the defendant or a representative. It also says the bond applies toward fines and costs, requires a drug- and alcohol-free appearance with testing permitted, and warns that another missed setting can trigger a new warrant. Those rules bind a Rainbow City case only. They are not Etowah County's general recall procedure, so recheck with the clerk before counting on any of it.
Local rule: Rainbow City's published appearance-bond process does not apply automatically in Gadsden, Southside, Attalla, Glencoe, or county court.
What an Etowah County Municipal Warrant Shows
A municipal file should tie the warrant to the city, the charge, the original setting, and any later court action. The cities use no published case-number format. So no sample pattern is offered here.
| Case or citation number | Use the official court number exactly as printed. |
|---|---|
| Issuing court | The city court that owns the docket and recall authority. |
| Underlying charge | The ordinance, traffic, or misdemeanor allegation. |
| Missed date | The original appearance and any later docket setting. |
| Warrant label | Alias, failure-to-appear, probation, or other term used by that court. |
| Status event | Issue, service, return, recall, quash, or later setting if public. |
| Condition | Payment, bond, proof, appearance, or another court-ordered step. |
An old warrant entry does not prove the process is still active. Confirm the latest docket status with the city clerk in Etowah County.
Southside Checks Etowah County Locally
Southside keeps its own rules. Southside Police will check a city warrant by phone, but every other warrant means a trip to the department. Non-emergency lines: 256-442-2312 and 256-442-2255. That phone-first setup is a Southside policy, not an Etowah County rule. Etowah County cities set their own check procedures. The Southside Municipal Court line is 256-442-9775, with a magistrate extension and email plus a separate clerk extension and email. Its page also walks through a PTIP option reviewed by a prosecutor and judge, possible payment arrangements, and public-defender access depending on the matter. None of it promises every warrant qualifies. The payment portal only takes money. Pay there and you still need the court's confirmation that the municipal warrant was handled.
Resolving an Etowah Municipal Warrant
An Etowah County municipal court warrant gets resolved by the city court that issued it. Payment is one path. Others include an appearance bond, a new court date, showing up in person, a written request to the court, or some other judicial order. No countywide amnesty or walk-in recall program exists here.
- Confirm the city, case number, current warrant status, and correct clerk through an official source.
- Ask whether payment, bond, a reset, a motion, or personal appearance is required. Clerk staff give procedure, not legal advice.
- Use only the official court's payment method and preserve receipts or submission confirmations. Seek counsel before choosing a plea or legal strategy.
- After acting, ask the issuing city for a current docket confirmation that the warrant was recalled, quashed, served, or remains open.
Warning: A payment receipt or portal no-match does not prove recall; only the issuing municipal court can confirm the warrant's current status.
City Portals Can Miss Etowah Warrants
Glencoe sends online payments through Court Solutions/MyFinePayment. You enter a last name, date of birth, and citation number. The vendor warns that a ticket can take up to ten days to upload. A match is not guaranteed, and handling the citation stays on you. So treat the portal as a payment aid, not a complete Etowah County municipal warrant lookup. Attalla handles its court business through City Hall instead. Sessions meet at 115 Case Avenue. The posted calendar ran to 2025, so it may not carry the current schedule. Before traveling, call 256-538-9986 and confirm both the session and the destination in Etowah County.
- Alias warrant
- Alabama form language for a warrant after failure to appear.
- Recall
- The issuing court withdraws the warrant from service.
- Capias
- An arrest command in some procedure, not a synonym for every city warrant.
- Docket
- The court's sequence of filed events and settings.
Municipal Records and the Etowah Sheriff
The Etowah County Sheriff runs a Warrant Division and a Civil Paper Division, and the Sheriff serves as an officer of the courts. That service role has limits. The Most Wanted display is not a complete index of city warrants. A municipal recall may be recorded by the city before any county list changes. Custody records are a separate matter. For booking questions, call 256-549-5408 or email booking@etowahcounty.org. A jail roster lists booking, charge, bond, court, and release details. It cannot certify that a municipal warrant is still active. Ask detention staff about custody and the city court about its docket. Alabama's ALEA fugitive search is limited too, and its public fields may leave out an Etowah County municipal, traffic, probation, or alias warrant. The dependable route still ends with the issuing clerk.
When the Etowah County City Is Unknown
Begin with the papers you already have. Old tickets, notices, receipts, and case files often name the court, the city, the officer agency, a citation number, or a hearing location. A Gadsden city charge runs through the municipal prosecutor, while a felony or a violation involving the Sheriff or a state trooper follows a different route. Papers that point to District or Circuit Court belong with Cassandra “Sam” Johnson's Circuit Clerk office at the Judicial Building, 801 Forrest Avenue, Suite 202, Gadsden. The office keeps a public terminal and a written record-request process. Requests can take up to 30 days, so they are not instant status checks. When the records stay unclear, call the Sheriff for routing and then each plausible municipal clerk. Silence from one office does not mean no warrant exists elsewhere in Etowah County. The Etowah County traffic warrant page explains the separate OTR and license-notice route.
Note: Municipal, county, Sheriff, custody, and ALEA records may not sync in real time, so date every confirmation and keep its source.
